Week 19 - 18/02/13 - Tailoring Worshop

Today I completed the master draft for my tailored jacket including facings, linings and pockets.

This is the pattern for the collar

Below is the pattern for the lining. I simplified the master draft and added tucks for ease of movement.

Here are the patterns for the jetted pocket with a flap.

Week 18 - 5/02/13 - Develop Directional Design

For this project, I have been given the designer Hanae Mori to design a capsule collection for.
Mori bridges Eastern culture with Western aesthetics. On WGSN one of the capsule trends for S/S 13 is called East-West Fusion which epitomises Mori's design signature.

Week 18 - 4/02/13 - Tailoring Workshop

As part of the tailoring workshop within the module, we are required to pattern cut and make half a tailored jacket. Below is the working drawing I will be working from:

To begin, I traced off a size 10 women's jacket block.

I lowered the armholes and then readjusted the sleeve head.

I removed the darts and transferred them into seams.

Garment detail samples

Below are samples from my garment detail file that I cut from clothes.

Samples of a polo neck colour and a button up fly from a pair of jeans.

Samples of a front and back pocket from a pair of jeans.

A breast pocket and buttons and placket from a denim shirt

A denim shirt collar with stud detailing

Samples from my Fabric File

All of these samples except for the pin stripe suiting fabrics are the fabrics that I bought from Paris. The suiting fabrics are wool/cashmere blends and from Richard James, Savile Row and  Maxon Huddersfield.

Couture fabric samples in Montmartre, Paris

Wondering around Montmartre looking for fabric shops, my friends and I stumbled upon a shop that was selling couture fabric coupons such as Chanel and real leather and sheepskin samples. We especially liked a sheepskin sample which is pictured above. The sample was 35 euros but due to disagreements and not enough of us wanting to contribute towards to the cost we decided to leave it as 2 of us alone didn't want to spend the amount of money.
